Making a file

  1. Drop, paste or pick an image on the home page. PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP and BMP work, up to 25 MB.
  2. Check the result against your image with the slider. Zoom in to look at the edges.
  3. Pick what it's for and the size you'll cut at, then download.

Everything else sits under Adjust: single line, stencil bridges, how many colours, detail, a cut line for stickers, and keeping white areas. A stencil of a photo has its own two: shading (lighter or darker) and whether to keep the background.

Questions

Why is my SVG black in Design Space?

Design Space ignores colours set in a style sheet inside the file, which many design programs write. Our files set each colour directly. To find out why another SVG comes in black, use the SVG checker.

Why does a file open at the wrong size?

A file without real units leaves the app to guess, and apps guess differently. Ours carry the inches or millimetres you set, measured across the design itself, so set the size first. Two app settings still resize things: Silhouette Studio stretches every DXF to fit the mat unless DXF Open is set to Centered, and Design Space opens any PNG at 144 pixels per inch, so give a PNG its width under Size.

What does “too small to cut” mean?

Some pieces would be thinner than your machine can cut or weed cleanly at the size you set: 1/32 in for vinyl cutters, 0.3 mm for lasers, 0.8 mm for 3D printing. We count them and show the width that fixes them. Nothing is removed without telling you.

Side by side or stacked?

Side by side (the default) cuts each colour as its own piece with no overlap, which suits layered vinyl laid next to each other and laser layers. Stacked keeps each colour whole underneath the colours on top of it, which suits layering vinyl or card on top of each other.

Single line or colour layers?

Colour layers outline every shape, for cutting. Single line draws one path down the middle of each stroke, for pens, foil and laser scoring. It works best on lettering and line drawings.

Why did white parts of my design disappear?

White is read as the paper, the same as the background, so it becomes a hole. To cut white parts in their own colour, turn on “Keep white areas inside the design” under Adjust.

My image is small or blurry. Will it work?

Small images are enlarged before tracing, and you'll see a note when one is under 500 pixels. A bigger copy of the same image always cuts cleaner.

Payments

What do I get?

The preview is free. $2.99 unlocks every size and file type for one image for 23 hours after you pay. $4.99 a month covers every image you make, up to 100 uploads an hour. For now it's sold to buyers in the US only; a payment from elsewhere is refunded in full. Payments go through Stripe; we never see your card.

How do I cancel?

Go to Account and choose Manage or cancel subscription. Cancel any time; it keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Email support@meltpixels.com within 7 days of a charge and we'll refund it in full, no questions asked. A refunded monthly charge ends the subscription straight away; cancelling without a refund keeps it working to the end of the paid month.
